Tuesday’s resolution is yet another example of the Board of Supervisors and their paid activists attempting to disparage and weaken me in order to gain control of the Sheriff’s Department. Don’t be fooled. This resolution and effort is ENTIRELY about defeating me in the next election as the “leaked” emailed below will show.

The Sheriff was duly elected by the voters and the first Democrat elected in almost 140 years, and the first Spanish speaking Latino in over 100 years. Those that oppose Sheriff Villanueva are free to try to defeat him in 2022.

Here are some facts in response to the lies by the paid adversaries.

Fact: Interactions between law enforcement and the public that result in use of force is less than 0.01% of all interactions.

Fact: All LASD shootings are reviewed in depth by the department and then handed over to the office of the District Attorney. Those interested in action being taken against deputies should speak with the LA County District Attorney.

Fact: The Deputies involved in the Andress Guardado death have been relieved of duty.

Fact: The East LA Bandidos clique has been disbanded. In an unprecedented move, Sheriff Villanueva replaced the entire command staff at East LA Station, including the station Captain. In addition, four deputies were fired, 22 were suspended, and 36 deputies were transferred out of the station.

Fact: The information alleging a Compton deputy clique first surfaced in the deposition of a deputy suing the department. This lawsuit was thrown out of court with prejudice. That means it is totally baseless. Still, Sheriff Villanueva launched an investigation that has so far resulted in four transfers and more to follow.

Fact: Sheriff Villanueva issued the first ever public statement by a Sheriff on deputy cliques and instituted the first ever policy regarding cliques. Each Deputy has read the policy, watched a video and signed an acknowledgement of the policy. State Assemblyman Mike Gipson has introduced a bill that would make the Sheriff’s policy state law.

Our Democratic Party must remain neutral and not be used as a pawn in the attack against Sheriff Villanueva by paid consultants and their billionaire donors.

Vote no on this undemocratic resolution.
